We also saw a manually operated ferris wheel. 4 guys would hold it until everyone was on, then turn it around by hand. Frightening! And the thing was on rickety wooden stantions! The lady that came around with us gets a commission if we buy anything from her shop. We declined but gave her a tip instead, which, apparently, is frowned upon by management but which she gratefully accepted. We also went to see a lake, which was a bit of a distance away, and one of the temples with an ocean view. On the way back I finally worked out where Richard had been taking us on the map and we both realised he really had no idea! There were several touristy places on the way back that Richard had absolutely no knowledge of and, using the Lonely Planet Indonesia guide, we were able to direct him to two fantastic temples that we would have missed had we not said anything. One was completely deserted (temporarily) and so had great photo potential, and one that was a huge temple surrounded by a moat. Glad we worked this out! Christine spoke to hotel reception when we got back and was able to organise a new driver the next day when Richard rang to say he couldn't make it. (So it worked out well.) Christine also had a massage that night while I caught up on some postcards. |
