23rd November
Swimming, massages, Kuta Beach and more
A relaxing day in Bali. First, breakfast (continental) choice of strawberry and mango jam (or both) on two pieces of toast plus coffee or tea plus pieces of fruit. Included in our hotel room price. On the Thursday I'd added sausages and ham for an extra 7000 but it wasn't that good so I didn't have it again.

The breakfast deck overlooked the pool area and was a great view of the relaxing garden display.

After breakfast we spent some time in the pool before heading out to explore. We walked down Legian street and had a look for a postal agency in the side streets. Also had a nice lunch at Made's Kitchen, a famous tourist mecca.

On the way back Christine had another massage. At only 50,000RP, massages were very cheap and I regret not finding time to have another one.

After the massage Christine went back to the hotel and I found an internet cafe. I spent too long there so when we got back together again later we were too late for the sunset on Kuta beach. (I was hoping to see that. Oh, well. Maybe next time. I thought it was at 6:30pm but it actually had disappeared by 6pm)

We then had dinner in a popular restaurant near Kuta Beach and once again were surprised at the price of everything (very cheap)

Then it was back home to sort the packing for tomorrow.

One of the things that is a bit annoying about Kuta is the number of people asking whether you need a ride in a taxi (taksi). Every couple of metres along the street - taksi mista? taksi mista? (Taxi Mister?) I love walking and have no trouble walking for 6 or 8 hours so when people try to convince me that I have to spend money to sit down I get a bit annoyed.

Another annoying thing is the amount of places selling pirated software. You can go into almost any shop in Bali and see obviously pirated software hanging in groups of ten from the wall. Blatantly on display. The software even had the same activation code on every packet. No wonder businesses have had to install a unique key system so that software could only be activated once. Needless to say I didn't buy any. A local business magazine said that piracy laws will be enforced soon. I doubt this will happen. Lots of businesses in Bali would collapse for a start, and who's going to police it? What worries me are the innocent people who think this is genuine and get it home to find that it won't work on their computer.

But these are small niggles. The holiday in Bali was fantastic and I will definitely miss the place tomorrow. I look forward to going back there sometime in the future.

24th November
Up early, early breakfast, early swim. Then final packing organised and ready for our taksi drive to Bali Airport. We were very surprised when I said to Christine that it's a shame that no one will meet us at the airport at the other end of our trip, then an sms arrived 20 minutes later from Wenni in Singapore offering to meet us at Changi International! What a coincidence! Singapore is looking good already.

On to Singapore
